Research interviews: a better way than transscription?

hi
I have been doing some research interviews for a course on quallitative research methods. It is of course the custom to transcribe each interview in detail and use the transcription to analyse it and so on.
As a blind student it kind of frustrates me that there don't seem to be many people who have tried to work with the audio as it comes as so much is lost during transcription and for me at least as a blind person nothing gained. I hear that sighted people prefer to have the transcription in front of them on paper so they can have a good overview and space to write notes in the margins and do all sorts of things to help them make sense of the interview.
I however would like to be able to do this using only a computer and save a lot of time and energy by skipping the transcribing by working with only my audio recording. I would like to be able to add notes to specific times link together different sections where the same themes come up and so on.
I'm currently trying to make this work using some form of Daisy but any thoughts, tips and tricks would be appriciated.
Knowing that some one else has experienced this kind of frustration would allso make me feel better:)
